We are excited to announce Lawrence Scheele’s first book, A Field Guide to the Marine Life of Magnetic Island.
It is a comprehensive natural history guide to the tropical fringing coral reefs of Magnetic Island and all its inhabitants.
It contains full colour images and descriptions of over 600 species, snorkeling tips and locations, as well as conservation messages.
This guide combines the world of art & science and encourages the reader to explore the ocean for themselves.
However, we have encountered a bit of a curveball…
The good news — The book is finished!
The not so good news — We just found out that our publisher, Ocean Reeve Publishing, has gone bankrupt and has shut down. To be honest, we’re still a bit in shock—it was completely unexpected and not something we saw coming. This unexpected development has impacted the release and distribution plans for the book and we are absolutely devastated.
Sadly, as this was a self-funded project, we’ve also suffered a significant financial loss as we paid for the publishing costs upfront. Like many others, we now realise we were misled by the publisher, and in the end, we were scammed. It’s been incredibly disheartening, not just financially but emotionally, after putting so much into this project.
At the moment, we are actively exploring alternative options to ensure A Field Guide to the Marine Life of Magnetic Island Great Barrier Reef reaches you—whether through a new publisher or a different publishing route. While this has caused an unfortunate delay, we remain fully committed to bringing this book to life and into your hands.
We will continue to keep you updated as we navigate the next steps. Your support and patience during this time means more than we can express.
All the best,
Lawrence & Kaspa
